PORTALS IN TIME...
I've always loved photography! Whether looking through old boxes of black and whites, or processing images in a dark room, I love every aspect of photography!  I cannot remember a time when I didn't have a camera in tow.   There's something thrilling about making time stand still - capturing raw emotions, scenes, events that can be reviewed at a moment's notice. Photos are portals in time that evoke strong emotional responses long after the day, event, or person staring back has passed. Photos have the power to make us laugh, cry, reflect and pause. My name is Julie Smith. I'm a graphic designer/photographer with a passion for preserving special moments in time for my clients.  I'm a visual communicator operating JuJuGrafiks Photography + Design...welcome to my site!

IS IT JUST ME?
I cannot be the only one who has photos/media stashed in fireproof boxes, stored on multiple hard drives and backed up to cloud storage sites.  I do a lot to protect my own personal memories, don't you? We do this because photos hold great meaning and can transport us to a specific place in time. So, when photographing a client, I consider myself a spectator witnessing countless memories unfolding before me. I pray for my eyes to be sharp, my fingers fast, and each frame to be shot with precision. 

A BIT OF HISTORY...
I began my journey in graphic design while in high school. My eye for photography was encouraged a wonderful technology teacher, and from there my path took shape. I went into journalism as a junior and became head photographer my senior year. I loved photographing and developing images for our award-winning yearbook The Tribe. It was my passion to capture moments that others could reflect upon with fondness, and that philosophy holds true today. 

My college experience took me back to my home state of Michigan where I received an Associates in Business, majoring in Graphic Communications in 1996. That same year I married my high school sweetheart, and we were stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota - the Badlands and The Black Hills were amazing! I worked for the 28th Services Squadron Marketing and Publicity Department as a Visual Information Specialist and could not have been happier serving our military. 

Honorably discharge in 1998, we returned to South Carolina. I spent several years working with some of the best graphic designers and publishers in SC & GA. From LifeSprings Resources in Franklin Springs, GA. to Print It! in Seneca, SC - in house graphic designing was my forte.  I loved working with clients, solving complex problems and taking ideas and transforming them to tangible marketing solutions. 

For years, I operated a photography studio (Captured Moments Photography) in SC. Studio work, weddings, event photography, product photography and graphic design highlighted studio work, and I enjoyed working to create moments clients would cherish with my business partner. As my family grew, so did my "plans". I was blessed with my long-awaited daughter in 2004 and transitioned my business to JuJuGrafiks Photography + Design to be more available to my family.  

LEARNING DAILY...
In 2012, I earned a bachelor's in advertising from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh maintaining a 4.0. I strongly believe in continuing education but also believe in hands on learning - good old-fashioned trial and error and troubleshooting make me tick. Learning something new DAILY is important for growth and I strive to meet that goal. I want to grow personally and professionally each and every day and hopefully pass that knowledge on to others.

Today, my family calls beautiful Western North Carolina home. Operating JuJuGrafiks has given me an opportunity to meet amazing people, volunteer for great organizations, and work with countless business who need solutions.
